Farm to School Planning — The Ready. Set. Go! Approach

This guide provides a blueprint for parents interested in supporting the creation of a robust farm to school program in their child’s K-12 setting.  Parents also will find connections to resources offering ideas, inspiration, and funding for farm to school projects.

USDA Farm to Preschool Fact Sheet
This USDA-developed fact sheet provides an overview of farm to child care and how it can be incorporated at a facility operating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

This fact sheet offers steps for incorporating farm to child care and outlines the differences between school districts and early child care settings.

School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
All school districts are required to have an organized SHAC — a group of individuals representing segments of the community, appointed by the district to provide advice on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student health and learning. The SHAC assists the school district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction. SHACs provide an efficient, effective structure for recommending age-appropriate, sequential health education programs, and early intervention and prevention strategies that can easily be supported by local families and community stakeholders.

Texas School Health Advisory Committee (TSHAC)
The state school health advisory committee at the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) provides active leadership in the identification and dissemination of school health best practices and resources for school policy makers. 

Farm to School Guide for Families and Community Members
This resource, developed by Community Alliance with Family Farmers, offers information for parents and community members interested in getting involved in farm to school locally.

Guide for Farm to School Community Action Planning
VT FEED compiled this “how to” guide for organizing a school committee to develop a local farm to school program. The guide may be helpful for school food service staff, parent, teacher, principal, student or community member seeking to make changes in their school food environment, and is filled with templates and examples for planning, running meetings, checklists and other resources.
