" August 1, 2022 - TDA has developed a new resource to collect racial/ethnic data of Program participants at open sites. This new resource aligns with the best practices and guidance provided by USDA in recent guidance and provided in TDA's Frequently Asked Questions documents.
August 1, 2022 - Effective May 17, 2021, federal policy prohibits visual observation as an allowable practice for gathering ethnic/racial data of program participants; the preferred method is self-identification and self-reporting. A best practice for this includes obtaining the information from parents or guardians.
TDA has developed a new Collection of Child Nutrition Program Participant Racial/Ethnic Data Prototypes form to assist program operators in capturing racial and ethnic data to the best extent possible. This form is available in the applicable tables on the CACFP and SFSP Administration and Forms pages on SquareMeals.org.
For more information and best practices, please refer to the SFSP and CACFP Frequently Asked Questions documents located here: https://squaremeals.org/FandNResources/CoronavirusUpdateforContractingEntities.aspx
