August 1, 2022 - The Keep Kids Fed Act passed on June 27, 2022, will allow higher reimbursements for meals, meal service flexibilities, and meal pattern flexibilities in the event of COVID-19-related supply chain issues.
Specifically, the Act makes the following changes for school year (SY) 2022-2023:
- Allows USDA to issue limited nationwide waivers that do not increase Federal costs.
- Extends the flexibility allowing TDA to waive fiscal action for any CEs that cannot meet the meal pattern due to a COVID-19-related supply chain disruption.
- Provides temporary additional reimbursements of:
- 40 cents per lunch served through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP); and
- 15 cents per breakfast served through the School Breakfast Program (SBP).
