June 16, 2022 - The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is excited to announce its receiving of funding for $3,759,351 from the Build Back Better (BBB) Reach and Resiliency grant to apply towards the State Distributing Agency (SDA) and Eligible Recipient Agency (ERA) projects in Texas.
The initiative’s key objective is to expand TEFAP's reach into remote, rural, Tribal, and/or low-income areas that are underserved by the program.
SDA and ERA-funded projects will target Texas-based rural and low-income areas, as determined by the current The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) Reach Assessment results, completed by TDA and outlined in the Request for Application (RFA). TDA plans to award this competitive grant of $3,182,702.04 to food banks with pre-existing contracts with TDA to assist in expanding their operations into targeted rural/remote areas. The aim is to use the grant funding towards equipment and expansion projects. In addition, the grant will focus on two state-level projects for TEFAP: outreach and training. TDA’s Food and Nutrition Division (FND) will also work closely with the TDA Rural Economic Development Division to complement a similar capacity-building grant that will target similar rural areas of Texas.
