Texas Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Day is coming up on April 17, and schools across Texas are encouraged to participate in a statewide "Rooted in Texas" contest. This is a great opportunity to highlight fresh, Texas-grown produce and engage students through simple, fun activities.
Quick Ways to Participate
- Feature a Texas-grown fruit or vegetable on your menu
- Host a simple taste test
- Add signage or decorations in the cafeteria
- Incorporate a quick classroom or cafeteria-based activity
Rooted in Texas: Fruit & Veggie Day Contest
Schools are invited to enter the Rooted in Texas Contest, recognizing creative and engaging efforts.
To enter, submit:
- A brief summary of your activities
- Photos and/or videos
- Menu highlights or student engagement examples
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2026

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/ad-3027.pdf, from any USDA office, by calling (866) 632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
